Overview

Thinn Downloader is a desktop-first transfer manager designed for real-world network instability. It helps users continue, recover, and complete large downloads confidently without restarting progress from zero.

Product Context

Users needed a simple downloader that does not fail when connectivity drops. The priority was to keep active transfers understandable and recoverable.

Primary Goals

Support pause, resume, cancel, and retry with predictable states.
Expose enough progress telemetry for user confidence.
Avoid UI noise while still providing responsive feedback.
Ship as a lightweight native-feeling desktop app.

Architecture

Golang core handling transfer execution and file I/O.
Wails bridge for desktop shell integration and command calls.
React UI with Zustand-managed transfer queue and state transitions.
shadcn/ui components adapted for dense queue interaction patterns.
Framer Motion interaction layers for progress and state transition clarity.

Implemented transfer state machine and guard conditions for invalid transitions.
Built queue operations for parallel transfer control and conflict handling.

Shaped bridge contracts between frontend events and Go commands.

Solution

Separated transport errors from user-visible status, then added explicit retry states with actionable controls.

Heavy animation made operational controls feel delayed and unclear.

Solution

Used Framer Motion selectively for entry, transition, and emphasis while keeping control latency immediate.
